Land History in the Longwood Area or How did Rolling Hills Golf Club begin.

So who was the first land owner in Longwood? No not the Indians they never owned any land, they where stewards of this earth. The correct answer is Louis A. Lampp, he received a Land Grant from Our President Rutherford B. Hays on July 21^st 1879. He held all 162.04 Acres for just over 6 months and then sold all but 2 acres for the tidy sum of $250.00 to J.M. Hendry and so it goes on and on land is bought improved and sold (and sometimes not improved). I was provide a great gift from a past client of ours it was the Abstract of Title for a property we sold for them. It is a lovely record of each sale from the very large land grant all the way down to a small ¼ Acre parcel they had their home built on and yes this home sits today at the 18^th Tee Box of Rolling Hills Golf Club.

Back in 1926 the Sanlando Springs Corporation provide to Calvin O Black a portion of this land separated into 400 lots if he would build (within 6 months) a golf course, clubhouse with men and women locker rooms and a pro shop. Yes this golf course should be irrigated (truth be known that did not happen until the mid 1950’s). Yet Mr Black had his opportunity. That is how our great Golf Club came into being. For additional information on the History of the Club was published by Mr. Kennedy (UCF Professor and long time member) back in the mid 90's.  I would point you in that direction.
